Sarah Carmoody was born in 1818 at Bath, Somerset Co., England. She was baptized on Sunday, 20 May 1821 at St. Mary, Lambeth, Surrey Co., England. She, with her mother Mary Carmoody, Amelia Carmoody, Mary Carmoody and Richard Carmoody were sent at to the Castle Street Workhouse, Westminster, Middlesex Co., England, on Thursday, 31 August 1826. She was 8 years old. She was discharged on November 27, 1826 and sent to St. Leonard's Workhouse with her family. She was discharged from this workhouse on February 24, 1827 and sent to the Enfield Workhouse. On February 12 1828, she was discharged and sent to her mother. Sarah and Thomas Quarterman, son of William Quarterman, were married by Curate G. A. Butler on Sunday, 12 September 1852 at the Parish Church, St. Marylebone, London, Middlesex Co., England. He was a widower, porter, living in St. Marylebone. She was a spinster, living in St. Marylebone. Eliza Quarterman and John Quarterman witnessed the marriage.
